These injections put medicine, usually steroid, into the joints that connect the vertebrae to each other. These joints help us bend, twist, flex and extend our spines. As we go through life, they can receive some “wear and tear” which can make your neck or back ache and feel stiff if these joints aren’t used for a while. Some examples of inactivity which can make your neck or back ache and feel stiff include sleeping, sitting in a chair or a  car, reading a book or working on the computer. Like ESIs and TESIs, facet joint injections are often done three times at two to four week intervals to give you the best chance for good, long term relief.
