If you have pain in your shoulder, hip or knee because of arthritis or injury, your doctor may recommend a joint injection to help relieve pain and/or promote healing. In addition to arthritis, your doctor may recommend a joint injection for other conditions such as bursitis or a rotator cuff injury in the shoulder. The medicine(s) or substance(s) your doctor chooses to inject will depend on the reason, or goal, for the injection. In addition to the larger joints mentioned above, all other joints in the upper (arm) or lower (leg) extremities can be injected when your doctor feels the injection is appropriate.
